Ichthys Hot Oil Flushing: Driving LNG Reliability with Precision Hot Oil Flushing

AFP partnered with Kentz UGL to deliver a large-scale hot oil flushing program for the Ichthys Onshore LNG Facilities in Darwin, Australia.

The project required flushing and commissioning of critical equipment including GE gas turbines, GE and Siemens compressors, and Mitsubishi compressors. To meet an intensive schedule and strict cleanliness standards, AFP deployed its experienced field technicians and a comprehensive suite of bespoke flushing equipment.

In total, more than 1.4 billion litres of oil were flushed, with flows reaching 6,000 LPM to clean pipework ranging from 0.5” to 16”. The works were delivered with zero LTIs across 100,000 safe work hours, and were supported by a full documentation package including third-party verified fluid cleanliness reports.

• Comprehensive scope – cleaning of 4 GE Gas Turbines, 8 GE Compressors, 2 Siemens Compressors, and 5 Mitsubishi Compressors.

AFP delivered a robust and fully compliant hot oil flushing solution, ensuring all turbines and compressors were commissioned to the required cleanliness levels and ready for LNG operations.

By combining specialist equipment with proven execution methods, AFP successfully supported the Ichthys LNG project with a safe, efficient, and verifiable flushing program. The outcome demonstrates AFP’s expertise in large-scale oil flushing, fluid cleanliness management, and LNG facility commissioning.
